  IMPORTANT STUFF: 

  Wood is a combustible material for applications where the material is not exposed to temperatures beyond 130 degrees F for extended periods of time.

  The marble or granite surround - supplied by others, should prevent exposure to high temperatures. Check with the firebox manufacturer for the heat created. 

  Note the opening is large enough and should be far from the flames. Check local building codes for clearances between the mantel, granite and firebox.
